I spent years saying to myself that I wished I had done this or wished I could go see that and then one day I read a book about a man that created a life to do list on the back of a napkin while in a bar, some of his items were pretty extreme but he did them. So I wrote down 10 items that I had more than once said I wanted to do and then started focusing on them. Amazingly in less than a month I had accomplished two of those items (learning how to kayak and go deep sea fishing). I went from dreaming to actually accomplishing them. I have kept the list going for over 20 years with a rule to review at least twice a year and be intentional to complete a few items on the list each year. As I complete 5 items off my list of 10, I add 5 more, they can be places to visit, new hobbies, buy a home or car, anything that I want to accomplish I put on the list so that I am intentional.
So last week I took a road trip to Texas to complete a few of my life to do items. I have always wanted to stay overnight in a yurt and to stay overnight in a treehouse. So when I found a place near Burnet, TX that had a yurt built up in the trees I booked it. Staying in a yurt up in the trees is interesting, your view is all green as you are in the trees, birds soaring in the sky is interesting when they are that close, you need to be okay with living in the round, skylight view is amazing, think tent on window coverings so be okay with being in the open, you will have a bathhouse separate so be okay with going out in the night to cross over (this took a little getting use to), pack light as it is all up hill and most importantly be open to a new adventure.
With my 365 days of vacation I plan on marking off a few more of my life to do items and then of course adding more as life should be lived not just let it happen.
